Como a imprensa tratava o presidente João Goulart?


Os jovens de hoje, bombardeados por jornalistas, alguns quase tão jovens quanto eles - uns mal informados, outros mal intencionados -  precisam ser esclarecidos acerca do “novo mito” reinventado : “João Goulart, o homem das ‘Reformas de Base”, que teriam salvo o Brasil e libertado o povo e  contra as quais os militares e os poderosos se insurgiram e deram o Golpe!” 


Recordemos, pois, o clima de 1963/64. Semelhanças com a atualidade não são meras coincidências.

Muito tem se discutido sobre o governo João Goulart e o golpe militar de 31 de março. Quem não viveu aquela época não tem uma real noção do que aconteceu. Por isso, vale a pena publicar a pesquisa da jornalista Cristiane Costa, postada originalmente no blog BrHistória.

O levantamento mostra que a imprensa, praticamente sem exceção, apoiou a derrubada do presidente João Goulart, em função dos desatinos cometidos ao propor uma reforma agrária demagógica, que atingiria todas as grandes fazendas produtivas, num país onde não faltam extensas áreas improdutivas a serem cultivadas.

Além disso, Jango queria "derrubar" a lei da oferta e procura, ao tabelar, também demagogicamente, todos os aluguéis nas áreas urbanas. Sem falar na quebra da hierarquia nas Forças Armadas. Estas foram as principais razões da queda, que teve expressivo apoio da classe média, como os jornais registraram.  É só conferir:

“Minas desta vez está conosco”(…) “Dentro de poucas horas, essas forças não serão mais do que uma parcela mínima da incontável legião de brasileiros que anseiam por demonstrar definitivamente ao caudilho que a nação jamais se vergará às suas imposições.”

“Multidões em júbilo na Praça da Liberdade. Ovacionados o governador do estado e chefes militares. O ponto culminante das comemorações que ontem fizeram em Belo Horizonte, pela vitória do movimento pela paz e pela democracia foi, sem dúvida, a concentração popular defronte ao Palácio da Liberdade. Toda área localizada em frente à sede do governo mineiro foi totalmente tomada por enorme multidão, que ali acorreu para festejar o êxito da campanha deflagrada em Minas (…), formando uma das maiores massas humanas já vistas na cidade”

“A população de Copacabana saiu às ruas, em verdadeiro carnaval, saudando as tropas do Exército. Chuvas de papéis picados caíam das janelas dos edifícios enquanto o povo dava vazão, nas ruas, ao seu contentamento”

Assim o querem as Forças Armadas, assim o quer o povo brasileiro e assim deverá ser, pelo bem do Brasil”

Porque souberam unir-se todos os patriotas, independentemente das vinculações políticas simpáticas ou opinião sobre problemas isolados, para salvar o que é de essencial: a democracia, a lei e a ordem. Graças à decisão e ao heroísmo das Forças Armadas que, obedientes a seus chefes, demonstraram a falta de visão dos que tentavam destruir a hierarquia e a disciplina, o Brasil livrou-se do governo irresponsável, que insistia em arrastá-lo para rumos contrários à sua vocação e tradições. Como dizíamos, no editorial de anteontem, a legalidade não poderia ter a garantia da subversão, a ancora dos agitadores, o anteparo da desordem. Em nome da legalidade não seria legítimo admitir o assassínio das instituições, como se vinha fazendo, diante da Nação horrorizada …”

Nota

– Seis dias depois da derrubada de Goulart, a Tribuna da Imprensa, de Helio Fernandes, posicionou-se contra o regime militar. Depois, o Correio da Manhã, de Paulo Bittencourt, também foi para a oposição. Mas todos os outros destacados órgãos da chamada grande imprensa seguiram apoiando indefinidamente o governo militar, como fica demonstrado nesses dois editoriais que seguem abaixo, também pesquisados pela jornalista Cristiane Costa:   

“Vive o País, há nove anos, um desses períodos férteis em programas e inspirações, graças à transposição do desejo para a vontade de crescer e afirmar-se. Negue-se tudo a essa revolução brasileira, menos que ela não moveu o País, com o apoio de todas as classes representativas, numa direção que já a destaca entre as nações com parcela maior de responsabilidades”.

General da Força Aérea arrasa Ministro da Defesa

Ex..º Sr. General Chefe do Gabinete de S. Ex.ª o Ministro da Defesa Nacional, Caro camarada:

Apresento a V. Ex.ª os meus cumprimentos.

Tomo a liberdade de me dirigir a V. Ex.ª para lhe solicitar que transmita a S. Ex.ª o Sr. Ministro a minha indignação relativamente à forma pouco respeitosa e mesmo insultuosa como se referiu às Forças Armadas, aos militares e às suas Associações representativas, no passado dia 1 de Fevereiro. De todos os governantes, o Ministro da tutela era o último que deveria proferir palavras dessa estirpe.

Sou Tenente-General Piloto-Aviador na situação de Reforma, cumpri 41 anos de serviço efectivo e possuo três medalhas de Serviços Distintos (uma delas com palma), duas medalhas de Mérito Militar (1.ª e 2.ª classe) e a medalha de ouro de Comportamento Exemplar. Servi o meu País o melhor que pude e soube, com lealdade e com vocação, sentimentos que S. Ex.ª não hesita em por levianamente em causa. Presentemente, faço parte com muito orgulho, do Conselho Deontológico da Associação de Oficiais das Forças Armadas.

Diz o Sr. Ministro que “a solução está em todos nós. Em cada um de nós”. Não é verdade! A solução está única e exclusivamente na substituição da classe política incompetente que nos tem governado (?) nos últimos 25 anos, e que nos tem levado, de vitória em vitória, até à derrota final! Os comuns cidadãos deste País, nomeadamente os militares, não têm qualquer responsabilidade neste descalabro. Como disse o Sr. Coronel Vasco Lourenço no seu livro, “os militares de Abril fizeram uma coisa muito bonita, mas os políticos encarregaram-se de a estragar…”

Diz também S. Ex.ª que as Forças Armadas estão a ser repensadas e reorganizadas. Ora, se existe algo que num País não pode ser repensado nem modificado quando dá jeito ou à mercê de conjunturas desfavoráveis, são as Forças Armadas, porque serão elas, as mesmas que a classe política vem sistematicamente vilipendiando e ultrajando, a única e última Instituição que defenderá o Estado da desintegração.

Fala o Sr. Ministro de algum descontentamento protagonizado por parte de alguns movimentos associativos. Se S. Ex.ª está convencido que o descontentamento de que fala se limita a “alguns movimentos associativos”, está a cometer um erro de análise muito sério e perigoso, e demonstra o desconhecimento completo do sentir dos homens e mulheres de que é o responsável político. Este descontentamento, que é geral, não tenha dúvida, tem vindo a ser gerado pela incompetência, sobranceria, despudor e, até, ilegalidade com que sucessivos governos têm vindo a tratar as Forças Armadas. É a reacção mais que natural de décadas de desconsiderações e de desprezo por quem (é importante relembrar isto) vos deu de mão beijada a possibilidade de governar este País democraticamente!

As Forças Armadas não querem fazer política! Não queiram os políticos, principalmente os mais responsáveis, “ensinar” aos militares o que é vocação, lealdade, verticalidade e sentido do dever. Mesmo que queiram, não podem fazê-lo, porque não possuem, nem a estatura nem o exemplo necessários para tal.

Quem tem vindo a tentar sistematicamente destruir a vocação e os pilares das Forças Armadas, como o Regulamento de Disciplina Militar, destroçado e adulterado pelo governo anterior? Quem elaborou as leis do Associativismo Militar, para depois não hesitar em ir contra o que lá se estabelece? Quem tem vindo a fazer o “impossível” para transformar os militares em meros funcionários do Estado? Apesar disso, tem alguma missão, qualquer que ela seja, ficado por cumprir? Fala S. Ex.ª de falta de vocação baseado em que factos? Não aceita S. Ex.ª o “delito de opinião”?

Não são seguramente os militares que estão no sítio errado!

Por tudo o que atrás deixei escrito, sinto-me profundamente ofendido pelas palavras do Sr. Ministro.
